Public footpath

BAW has public access via country lanes and rural Wiltshire Council Public Rights of Way (PRoW). Entry points into the woods are at west ST 807599 & east ST 812601. BAW is traversed by a PRoW footpath WWOO29:

  • 500 metres long and the western part is an average of 2 metres wide. This part is much wider because of vehicles being driven down it and rainfall run-off keeping it this way.
  • From about halfway along, where the path levels out somewhat, it is much narrower, only the width of a single walker.
  • Doesn’t follow the mandated route at the eastern end.
  • Descending 40 metres elevation west to east.

Unsurfaced, rocky in places, with sections loose and uneven and muddy and slippery after rain. It has short steep inclines, 20-30% gradients for 5-metre lengths
